New car registrations blast off this February

Romania’s registrations of new vehicles grew in February, by almost 50 percent to 11,979 units compared with the same period a year earlier, the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV) data reveal.

Passenger cars registered the biggest jump of over 62 percent, with 8,302 units recorded in February compared with the same month a year earlier.

Depending on the number of registered units, most of the demands have targeted brands such as: Dacia – with 2,085 units (an increase of 49.57 percent compared to February 2016), Skoda (704 units, + 40.80 percent), Volkswagen (700 units, + 60.18 percent), Renault (579 units, 127.06 percent) and Ford (556 units, + 41.37 percent).

On the other hand, the lowest frequency of the registrations were recorded by Maserati (7 units), SsangYong and Subaru (6 units each), Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Shuang Huan and smart (two units each), BMW I, Ford CNG-Technik, GWM, Lada and Mercedes AMG (one unit each).

According to DRPCIV, the national car fleet has increased in 2016 by 6.21 percent from the previous year, exceeding 7 million vehicles, of which over 1.25 million were registered in Bucharest.
