Resident natural persons held in banks, by December 31, 2015, a total of 14.4 million accounts, the amount of the deposits recorded in the accounts was of RON 130.4 billion, Florin Georgescu, BNR first Vice-Governor said on Tuesday during a presentation.
The average amount of a deposit was of RON 9,100, capital.ro reports.
“Structurally, according to the principle one person – one account – one bank, profound disparities are seen,” Georgescu said, presenting his paper at a recently organized conference by the National School of Political Science and Public Administration (SNSPA).
Thus, 66% of depositors, in ascending order, hold only 1% of total money in bank accounts with amounts of up to RON 1.000/depositor.
4% of people with the largest deposits hold 67% of the amounts deposited in the banks, with deposits of over RON 50,000. Of these, 2% have the largest deposits (i.e. more than RON 100,000) hold 51% of the bank savings.
People with deposits of over RON 500,000 represent 0.1% of the total volume and have 13.6% of the overall savings.
94 people with over RON 10 million hold 2% of the savings, double as compared to the first group represented by small savers which are some 9.4 million natural persons, Florin Georgescu said.
