Annual inflation rate – up to 4.1% in April. Potatoes – the highest price increase

The consumer prices grew by 0.61% in April 2019 against the previous month and by 2.75% at the end of last year (December 2018), whereas the annual inflation rate climbed to 4.1%, given the increase of food prices by 4.98%, of non-food goods by 3.66% and of services 3.83%, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs on Monday.

The consumer prices grew by 0.49% against February with the annual inflation rate at 4%.

The highest price increases were registered by potatoes (+4.75%), vegetables and canned vegetables (2.48%), fruits and canned fruits (+2%) and fresh fruits (+1.68%).

In April, the consumer prices grew by 4.1% against April 2018. The annual inflation rate, based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 4.4% .The average consumer price index in the last 12 (May 2018 – April 2019) compared to the previous 12 months (May 2017 – April 2018), based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 4.3%.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has increased the inflation forecast up to 3% for 2019 and to 3.1% next year.
