ASF announces the reference RCA rates. Lowest tariff RON 506

The Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) has announced on Wednesday the reference rates for the compulsory insurance policies (RCA), in line with the provisions of emergency ordinance no. 54/2016 and the norm on their calculation methodology.

The last day with capped RCA rates is Thursday, and representatives of the authorities will not extend the period, said the ASF First Deputy Chairman, Cornel Coca Constantinescu, on Wednesday, in a press conference.

Reference tariffs are indicative and are calculated based on policy data (2012-2016) and damages (2010-2016) provided by insurers authorized to issue RCA policies on December 31, 2016.

The reference rates are structured according to: the categories of vehicles (cars, freight cars, passenger vehicles, etc.), the type of insured person (legal person/natural person) and the technical characteristics (cylinder capacity or power, number of seats) depending on the vehicle’s category.

Thus, the reference rate for a one-year RCA policy for people aged 31-40, with a capacity of 1,201 to 1,400 cc, is RON 506, by 17% below the maximum premium set for this category at RON 610, according to the ASF statement.

Legal entities owning a car with a capacity of 1,401 to 1,600 cc, the reference tariff is RON 957, compared to a maximum premium of RON 992 (-4%).

For motor vehicles with a mass over 16 tons, the reference tariff is RON 7,314, by 3% lower than the maximum premium rate set for this category (RON 7,534).

For passenger vehicles owned both by natural and legal persons, with a capacity of more than 40 seats, the reference tariff is RON 5,616, by 15% less than the maximum premium rate applicable to this category (RON 6,600).

The Chamber of Deputies adopted on Tuesday the draft law on compulsory third party liability insurance for third-party damage caused by vehicle and tramway accidents, by 226 votes in favour, 25 against and 4 abstentions.
