EU funding for Suceava ring-road

The European Commission has approved the first phase of a major project worth EUR 51.7 million, with almost EUR 44 million coming from the Cohesion Fund, to build the road-ring of Suceava city, in North-East Romania, a press release informs. This project is part of the core TEN-T network.

“Cohesion Policy supports the modernisation and the development of key European transport networks, and we have a new example today. This project will benefit both local and international users of this transit corridor,” Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creţu stated on Wednesday.

This project will improve road safety and reduce travel time in the urban area of Suceava.

The major project is co-financed through the Transport Operational Programme in Romania under the priority Axis 1 “Modernization and development of TEN-T core network aiming at sustainable transport system integrated with EU transport networks”.

The co-financing decision for this project falls under the programming period 2007-2013, the second phase will be completed in the programming period 2014-2020.
