The average fixed internet data download speeds have increased by almost 45% in the first half of 2017, against the first half of 2016, from 75.07 Mbps to 109.1 Mbps, the National Communications Administration and Regulation Authority (ANCOM) reported on Monday.
The average mobile data download speeds has fallen by 28%, from 27.72 Mbps to 19.99 Mbps, amid an increase in the number of user tests on this segment and data traffic through mobile networks.
The H1 2017 fixed and mobile internet statistics were generated by Netograf.ro – the ANCOM application for testing internet access service quality – based on a total of 135,000 valid tests conducted by internet users in Romania.

ANCOM recommends users who want to test their fixed connections to use wire-connected terminal equipment. The average speeds for wireless connections are about three times lower than for wired connections due to the limited transmission capacity of wireless routers (usually offering nominal speeds of up to 300 Mbps). In addition, the Wi-Fi speed is negatively affected by the distance to the wireless transmitter /router and the presence of obstacles between the terminal and the transmitter, the release reads.
