Tax amnesty law came into force today

Tax amnesty law came into effective on Friday, so that a series of obligations will be canceled for some categories of taxpayers.

The legislative act is linked to the reappointment of independent activity into dependent activity, because of which some Romanians have been ordered to pay taxes in an abusive manner. The payment obligations set up by the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) until June 1 will be deleted in these conditions.

The law requires the cancellation of tax liabilities for those receiving mission allowances such as per diems, which the tax authorities have deemed them salaries.

It will be also cancelled the obligation to pay contributions for health insurance (CASS), unpaid, but only for people whose monthly calculation base is smaller than the minimum gross salary at country level related to tax periods between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2014.

The law also refers to authorized individuals who have exceeded the income threshold and then declared themselves VAT payers.

Moreover, those who improperly paid CASS, such as for children’s interest allocations, will get back these amounts.
