The net nominal average earnings decreased by 2.8% in February against the previous month to RON 2,236, as a result of granting occasional bonuses in previous months and of failing to meet the production, the largest decrease was recorded in the manufacture of tobacco products, by 41% to RON 3,809, according to data released on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The highest values of net nominal average earnings were registered in activities of information technology services (including related services), of RON 5,631, while the lowest levels in hotels and restaurants (RON 1,351). As compared to February last year, the net nominal average earnings increased by 14.7%. The real earnings index against the same period in the previous year was of 114.5%. The real earnings index reached 97.3% for February 2017 as compared to the previous month. As compared to October 1990, the real earnings index was 170%, by 4.7 percentage points lower than that level registered in January 2017, INS informs.
In the public sector increases in net average earnings were recorded against the previous month as a result of the application of legal provisions for the staff paid from public funds, as follows: in public administration (+7.5%) and education (+2.5 %). The net average earnings decreased slightly in health and social assistance (-1.2%) as compared to the previous month.
