Unemployment rate steady at 5.3pc in April

The unemployment rate in April 2017 was of 5.3%, at the same level as in the previous month, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informed on Wednesday.

The number of unemployed aged 15-74 was of 471,000, down against 478,000 in March and against the previous month (549,000).

By gender, men unemployment was higher by 1.3% than women unemployment rate (5.9% as compared to 4.6%).

The unemployment rate for people aged 25-74 was estimated at 4.2% in April 2017 (4.8% for men and 3.5% for women). The number of unemployed aged 25-74 represents 74.2% of the total number of unemployed estimated in April 2017.
