Novotel bolsters Romanian footprint with new hotel in Timișoara opening by the end of 2027

Accor, a world hospitality group, is expanding its presence in Romania with the signing of a new franchise agreement with Amazonia Aquapark SRL for Novotel Timișoara, a newly built hotel set to open by the end of 2027. Situated in the heart of Western Romania and directly connected to the region’s largest water park, this flagship hotel will bring Novotel’s signature comfort and versatility to one of the country’s most dynamic and fast-growing cities.

Established in 1967, Novotel pioneered the concept of affordable comfort, catering to families and business travellers with quality hotel innovations. Novotel has since evolved into a globally recognised brand with close to 600 hotels across 60+ countries and an additional 180+ hotels in the pipeline.

The hotel will be just steps away from the renowned Amazonia Aquapark, the region’s premier aquatic destination that blends entertainment with Asian therapies and wellness treatments.

Romania remains a strategic growth market for Accor in Eastern Europe, with a portfolio of 22 operating hotels totalling 2,397 rooms nationwide. Novotel Timișoara will be the Group’s third property in the city, following the successful openings of Mercure Timișoara in 2020 and ibis Timișoara in 2021. With over 20 new hotels currently in the development pipeline, Accor is set to significantly strengthen its presence in Romania by 2027.

Frank Reul, VP – Development Accor Premium, Midscale & Economy Eastern Europe, Balkans, Italy & Greece says: “Romania is one of our key markets in Eastern Europe, and we are committed to expanding our global brands in new locations across the country. Novotel Timisoara will demonstrate the brand’s promise of comfort, flexibility, and immersive experiences. This opening reinforces Accor’s leadership in the region and supports the development of vibrant cities like Timișoara through world-class hospitality.”

Located at 56 Avram Imbroane Street, the hotel is just eight minutes from the city centre and less than 15 minutes from both Timișoara International Airport and Timișoara Nord train station. The hotel will feature 152 rooms, including 15 junior suites, one presidential duplex suite, and 20 family rooms with child-friendly facilities. Additional amenities will include two restaurants with outdoor terraces and a dedicated kids’ area, a central bar, a fitness centre, and extensive modular meeting and conference facilities, spanning over 1,000 sqm, including a 630 sqm multifunctional hall and a flexible foyer. Outdoor parking will also be available.

“Partnering with Accor, a global leader in hospitality, gives us the opportunity to elevate our vision for the Amazonia destination and to access one of the most powerful marketing, distribution, and loyalty platforms in the world,” said Calin Olariu, Amazonia Aquapark SRL, the Romanian company that owns and operates both the water park and the new hotel. “We are excited to bring a new standard of hospitality to Timișoara and to play a role in transforming it into a regional tourism hub.”

Timișoara, often called the “Little Vienna”, is a cultural and economic centre recently honoured as the European Capital of Culture in 2023. Known for its architectural charm, green spaces, and thriving tech and manufacturing sectors, the city is an ideal setting for a destination that merges comfort, community, and connectivity.

“We’re not just building a hotel – we’re shaping a destination that reflects the next era of hospitality in Romania,” says Cătălina Roşu, Founding Partner, Win Advisors. “Together with our partners, we’re creating a space that evolves, connects, and redefines what hospitality can be,” adds Alina Vlădulescu, Co-Founder.

Directly connected to the Amazonia Aquapark, the property will mark two major firsts: the first Hypothesis Novotel in Europe, and the first full-facility Novotel outside Bucharest. Designed around the principles of modularity, sustainability – BREEAM certification, and immersive guest experience, the hotel sets a new standard for regional hospitality.
