OMV Petrom Buys Half of Three Renovatio Renewable Energy Projects

OMV Petrom acquired from Renovatio a 50% stake in three renewable energy projects totaling 130 MW.

This transaction complements the one announced at the beginning of this year for the acquisition of a 50% stake in the shares of Electrocentrale Borzeşti, which owns projects from renewable sources with a capacity of approximately 1 GW.

Through this new transaction, the total joint portfolio owned by the two partners exceeds 1.1 GW. Projects to reduce our and our customers’ carbon footprint are a central component of our strategy. About a third of the 11 billion euro investments until 2030 will be allocated to projects with low and zero carbon content“, said Christina Verchere, general manager of OMV Petrom.
“The completion of the transactions is forecast to take place in the second part of 2024, after the fulfillment of certain conditions. The parties have decided not to make public the value of the acquisition. These new projects have already ensured access to the national electricity transmission network”, a press release of the company added.
The projects will be developed, built and operated in partnership with Renovatio.
“We are pleased to expand our partnership with OMV Petrom, aiming together towards the energy transition and a sustainable economy based on innovation and environmentally friendly technologies. The green energy we will produce within the projects in our joint portfolio is an essential step towards a future aligned with the global environmental objectives”, emphasized Aurel Arion, general director of Renovatio.
OMV Petrom is present in Romania and neighboring countries through approximately 780 gas stations, under two brands – OMV and Petrom. At the end of last year, OMV Petrom was owned in a proportion of over 43% by Romanian shareholders, of which the Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy, with 20.7%, and 22.5% by Romanian pension funds, to which are added almost 500,000 individual investors and other Romanian entities.
