OMV Petrom aims to reach 1,000 electric vehicle charging points in the region by the end of 2024, following the acquisition of Romania’s largest electric mobility network, according to the company’s press release.
The transaction through which the energy producer bought Renovatio Asset Management, the owner of the largest charging network for electric vehicles in Romania, with over 400 charging points and prospects for growth to approximately 650 by 2026, was approved by the Competition Council and by the Commission for the Examination of Foreign Direct Investments.
“By completing this acquisition, OMV Petrom becomes the largest player in the field of electric mobility in Romania. Our ambition is to have 1,000 charging points installed in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Moldova by the end of this year. We want to remain the first option for our customers and to consolidate our leading position in Romania in the mobility segment”, says Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom Directorate, responsible for Refining and Marketing.
At the end of the first quarter of this year, there were around 300 charging points for electric vehicles in the OMV and Petrom networks in Romania. OMV Petrom is the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, with an annual group-level oil and gas production of approximately 41 million boe, reported in 2023. The group is present in Romania and neighboring countries through approximately 780 gas stations, under two brands – OMV and Petrom.
