Online payments for local taxes exceeded RON 10 M threshold in 2015

The value of the local taxes directly paid with the cash card on the Internet had a 52 pc increase in the first two months of this year compared to the same period of 2014, exceeding the RON 10 M threshold, which represents over 40 percent of the total online payments during the entire 2014, statistics reported by the banks to the Visa Europe in Romania revealed.

Thus, romanian tax payers made 40,000 online payments in the first two months representing local taxes. At the end of last year, over 110 town halls were accepting online payment, through www.ghiseul.ro or through their own platforms.

“(…) During this month we noticed that the level of 65, 000 active users of ghiseul.ro platform was outrun, compared to 50,000 active accounts early this year, which shows that more and more tax payers are clearly interested in the online payments’ speed, comfort and safety,” Catalin Cretu, Visa Europe regional manager for Romania, Croatia and Sloveni told a press release.

Visa Europe, together with member banks in Romania, is running the sixth annual edition of the national campaign of promoting online tax payments until the end of March. All Visa cards’ owners who pay their local taxes with their card during January 15-March 31, 2015 will automatically subscribe to a promotional campaign with prizes totaling RON 200,000. Participants can win one of the 380 prizes on a daily basis, representing the tax countervalue amounting to RON 100-500. There are also the big RON 100,000 prize.
