PayU Romania: Over 70 pc of the total online transactions reported last Friday. Yet, hundreds of complaints received after Black Friday

According to PayU Romania latest statistics, the Black Friday edition this year has generated over 264,000 transactions worth over RON 160 million, about 50% more than in the same period last year.

Transactions in the first 24 hours of the Black Friday campaign mounted to RON 115 M, with the average shopping basket being RON 695.

Over 70% of the total value of the online transactions have been reported on November 17. 40% more transactions have been made just this day, compared to last year, which proves that the Black Friday event has a spectacular rise from one year to another. The most surprising trend seen for the first time on the oline payment market is the payment by one click: Romanians have registered the card data before in order to pay quickly and safely by one click,” said Marius Costin, Country Manager PayU Romania.

The golden minute at Black Friday 2017 was reported during 7:03-7:04, when there was a record of 992 transactions per minute, 84% more than last year. The average value of the shopping basket reached over RON 600.

IT&C products remain the most bought products on Black Friday, followed by fashion items and eTail products (furniture, decorations, toys, books, food, cosmetic products, wines, etc).

The highest online transaction mounted to RON 37,400, made on Friday, around 6 p.m. The customer bought a car. Jewels worth RON 36,000 and RON 35,000 ranked first and third in the transactions’ top.

Not only Romanians have ordered from the shops in Romania on Black Friday. PayU have registered payments from 70 countries. In the top five of the highest orders there were: Saudi Arabia (an average shopping basket of RON 3,374), Pakistan (average shopping basket of RON 1,776), Cyprus (average shooping basket of RON 766), Romania (average shopping basket of RON 590) and Russia (average shopping basket of RON 581).

Hundreds of complaints filed at ANPC

The National Authority for Consumer’s Protection (ANPC) has received hundreds of complaints related to the Black Friday campaign. Details will be revealed soon, Bogdan Pandelica, ANRP president said on Thursday during an event hosted by the Competition Council.

Black Friday action has just started, it will go on in the upcoming period. We have several hundreds of complaints in this respect,” ANRP head stated.

In his turn, the Competition Council president Bogdan Chiritoiu said that the council is conducting an analysis on the online commerce that will also comprise information about the last Black Friday edition.
