4G is currently the big stake of telecom operators. RCS & RDS does not lose the pace and promises to expand the network so that by the end of this year will cover another 15 cities (Galati, Braila, Baia Mare, Targu Mures, Satu Mare, Ramnicu Valcea, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Targu Jiu, Resita, Slatina, Hunedoara, Vaslui, Barlad, Lugoj and Alexandria), besides the 12 already existing (Arad, Bucuresti, Brasov, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi, Oradea, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Sibiu and Timisoara), plus the localities around Prahova Valley and Brasov county.
“By the end of next year, the 4G network will be present mostly in urban areas of Romania,” Valentin Popoviciu, RCS & RDS development director said in a press conference on Wednesday. On October 1, RCS & RDS launched 4G services in Romania, based on a license purchased from 2K Telecom.
On this occasion, RCS & RDS offers to Digi Mobil clients, during October 21 to December 31, 2015, unlimited internet in the 4G network with no speed limits and no additional cost to subscribers. The special offer is addressed to both existing clients and to those who contract now one of the subscriptions of the Unlimited ‘Complet’ 2, 3, 5 or ‘Optim’ 2, 3, 5 ranges, and uses a compatible device in Digi Mobil 4G network (LTE TDD in 38 LTE TD 2600 band).
Popoviciu avoided to give details about the number of RCS & RDS customers in the mobile segment, but noted that more than 200,000 customers have ported the number in the operator’s network.
On the other hand, RCS & RDS wants to reach the target of 98 percent coverage nationwide of 3G network by 2019. “In the last 10 years, RCS & RDS has invested over USD 2 billion in developing and expanding the fixed network,” development director of the telecom operator added.
For the next year, the telecom company owned by businessman Zoltan Teszari set to invest in the development of fixed and mobile networks about EUR 150 million, similar to this year’s budget.
RCS&RDS is one of the most important companies on the cable and satellite television market in Romania. In 2014, the company registered a turnover of RON 2.31 billion, up by 10 percent over the previous year, while losses declined by 5.2 percent to RON 71 million.
