The turnover of retail trade grew by 9.3% in the first eight months of the year as compared to the same period in 2016, mainly as a result of non-food products sales, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Wednesday.
According to the statistics, during January 1-August 31, 2017, as compared with the same period of the previous year, the retail trade turnover (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as adjusted series by number of working days and seasonality, also grew by 8.4% due to the sales of non-food products (+12.5%), the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores (+11.2%) and sales of food, beverages and tobacco (+3.8%).
The INS figures also reveals that, in August 2017, against August 2016, the turnover volume of retail trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as gross series, increased by 15.9%.
At the comparative level of August 2017 vs. July 2017, the retail trade turnover (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased both as gross series – by 7.4% and as adjusted series – by 2.3%.
