Romania exported 7.87 million tons of cereals in the first nine months of 2017, down by 5.6 percent compared to the same period in 2016, while the receipts recorded a decrease of 2.5 percent , to EUR 1.421 billion, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) shows.
By comparison, in the first nine months of 2016, 8.4 million tons of cereals, worth EUR 1.458 billion, were exported to intra-Community and non-EU countries.
According to the trade balance with agri-food products, wheat is in the top of deliveries on foreign markets, from 1 January to 30 September 2017, with a quantity of 4.8 million tons and receipts of EUR 833.98 million, followed by grain corn with 1,695 million tons, worth EUR 384.31 million. EUR 187.66 million were earned from the barley exports (1.27 million tons).
On the other hand, during the analyzed period, Romania has also imported grain, which, were most of them then exported to other markets. In the first nine months of the year, 1,863 million tons of cereals were imported amounting to EUR 349.19 million, down from the same period in 2016, both in terms of quantity (2.36 million tons) and value (EUR 415.5 million).
MADR data shows that Romania exported in the first nine months of last year agro-food products of over EUR 4.4 billion and imported of over EUR 5.2 billion, the registered deficit increasing by 79 percent, up to to EUR 757.34 million, compared to the same period in 2016.
