Romania exported agri-food products of EUR 4.5 bn in the first 10 months of 2014

Exports of agri-food products reached about EUR 4.5 billion in the first 10 months of last year, while the trade surplus exceeded EUR 496.5 million at the end of October, 2.7 times higher than the value recorded in the same period in 2013, according to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) data, Agerpres informs.

Thus, the products with the largest share in total exports were wheat, cigarettes, corn and sunflower seeds, which have helped to get more than half of collected revenues.

The record level of trade surplus was mainly due to exports of cigarettes and rapeseed, which, compared to the same period of the previous year, brought additional revenue of EUR 143.6 million, respectively, EUR 143.4 million.

Significant revenues were also obtained mainly from wheat (EUR 66.7 million), corn (EUR 67.3 million), live sheep and goats (EUR 28.9 million) and nuts (EUR 19.8 million).

Compared to the first 10 months of 2013, the exports of seeds and sunflower oil decreased, by EUR 100.9 million, respectively EUR 21.3 million, as well as the poultry meat by EUR 15.1 million.

The European Union was the main partner of Romania in agri-food trade. Thus, in the first 10 months of 2014, the deliveries of agricultural products to this destination had a share of 59.4 percent, and purchases from Member States – 81.4 percent.
