Romania Ranks High in Europe for Expensive Fuel Prices

The massive increase in fuel excise from the beginning of July, decided by the Government, moves Romania up the European ranking of countries with expensive fuels, so that in many more EU countries, fuels are now cheaper than here. Now, nine EU countries have lower pump prices than in our country.
Fuels in Romania are now more expensive than in several member states of the European Union compared to the situation before July 1, when the Romanian Government imposed an increase in excise duties, as shown by data from Oil Bulletin, the fuel price monitoring service in European Union, based on average prices in each country.
Therefore, on July 8, after the excise tax increase, the average price of gasoline sold in Romania was 1.54 euros per liter, still significantly below the European average. Gasoline is cheaper than here in Bulgaria (1.33 euros), Cyprus (1.50 euros), the Czech Republic (1.53 euros), Lithuania (1.50 euros), Malta (1.34 euros), Poland ( 1.52 euros), and Slovenia (1.47 euros).
Practically, Romania ranks eighth in the EU in terms of the price of gasoline, in ascending order, that is, seven other countries have lower prices at the pump.
Before the massive price increase generated by the excise tax increase, the average price of gasoline in Romania was 1.45 euros per liter. At that time, gasoline was cheaper than here only in Bulgaria (1.33 euros) and Malta.
