Romania’s construction sector has fallen by 11.8 percent in Q3 2014 as compared to the same interval in 2013, the second steep fall in the UE, Eurostat informs.
In November 2014 compared with October 2014, season ally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 0.1% in the euro area (EA18) and by 0.2% in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October 2014, production in construction grew by 1.1% and 0.5% respectively.
In November 2014 compared with November 2013, production in construction grew by 2.2% in the euro area and by 2.5% in the EU28.
Monthly comparison by construction sector and by Member State
The decrease of 0.1% in production in construction in the euro area in November 2014, compared with October 2014, is due to building construction falling by 0.2% and civil engineering by 0.1%.
In the EU28, the decrease of 0.2% is due to building construction falling by 0.2% while civil engineering grew by 0.1%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were observed in Italy (-4.5%), the United Kingdom (-2.0%), and the Czech Republic (-1.9%), and the highest increases in Romania (+5.8%), Poland (+2.5%), Sweden (+2.4%) and Spain (+2.2%).
Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State
The increase of 2.2% in production in construction in the euro area in November 2014, compared with November 2013, is due to building construction rising by 2.7 %, while civil engineering fell by 0.5%. In the EU28, the increase of 2.5% is due to building construction rising by 3.3%, while civil engineering fell by 0.5%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were registered in Spain (+15.9%), Sweden (+12.5%) and Hungary (+8.8%), and the largest decreases in Slovenia (-11.2%), Italy (-7.9%), Portugal (-5.7%) and Slovakia (-5.1%).
