Romanian airline buys Air Moldova

Civil Aviation Group SRL has won the privatisation contract of R. of Moldova’s flag carrier, Air Moldova.

Civil Aviation Group SRL is made of Romanian low cost airline Blue Air and a group of investors from Republic of Moldova, offering 50 million Moldovan RON (MDL) for the privatisation, and also taking over the debts of Air Moldova, which mounted to roughly MDL 1.2 billion, a Blue Air press release informed. Blue Air is the majority shareholder. A MDL is 0.24 RON, which means that Air Moldova has debts of around EUR 60 million.

The new owners said that Air Moldova’s current flight schedule remains the same.

Blue Airis the largest Romanian airline on the number of passengers carried, namely 21 million passengers until now. Blue Air has flown on 100 routes this year.

Two years ago, the Republic of Moldova’s national carrier, Air Moldova, reintroduced the flights between Chisinau and Bucharest.

Chisinau-Bucharest route operated with a frequency of six times a week, excepting Saturdays, with an Embraer 190 aircraft, Moldova.org announced. The airline dropped the flights on the Chisinau – Bucharest route in February 2015. Air Moldova had a fleet of six aircraft, with an average age of 15.6 years.
