Romanian construction company, provider in the Greek “Ellenikon” mega project

A Romanian construction company is providing concrete piles for the largest residential urban regeneration project in Europe, known as “The Ellenikon”.

Romanian company Octagon Fundatii Speciale (OFS) is providing the concrete piles for the residential Ellenikon project, more precisely the large drilled piles. The foundation is composed of some concrete pillars buried very deep in the rock, above which comes the basement with many more floors, and then the tower, above the ground.

The project includes the Riviera Tower, a 50-storey residential building, a Metropolitan Park, and a Sports Park.

Intrakat is part of the JV that has undertaken the construction of Ellenikon Sports Park (€80 million), a sports dorm with a capacity of 124 rooms. The Sports Park will comprise 4 football pitches, basketball and tennis courts.

The Metropolitan Park includes 131,000 sqm of hardscape pavements, 264,000 sqm softscape including planting of 5.085 trees and 4,000 sqm new artificial lake.

Part of the Ellenikon programme is the Riviera Tower, designed by the Foster+Partners architectural firm, and developed by Lamda Development, aiming to transform the Athens former International Airport in a €334 million project.

The Riviera Tower, the tallest tower in Greece is a 200-metre high residential tower on the Athens waterfront of the Aegean Sea.

The project envisages the redevelopment of a part of the former Airport into a large-scale park and public space, involving landscaping along with the creation of key park facilities and amenities, worth €75million.

The Riviera Tower comprises over 200 private residences — each with a stunning view, with a sqm worth at least EUR 50,000.

As Intrakat Communication Director Giorgos Tsaprounis told Romania Journal, all apartments of the Riviera Tower are sold out and, for instance, an apartment has just been sold for EUR 11 million.

“It is the highest residential project in Greece, in Europe. Such a project has never been done so far in Greece. The tower has 50 floors and all apartments are sold out,” said Giorgos Tsaprounis.

The design is also of cutting-edge technology. “The project is a next-generation example of biophilic design — an approach that brings the built environment and the natural landscape into greater harmony. At the Riviera Tower, that means a holistic approach to sustainable resources, low-embodied and operational energy and symbiosis with the unique ecology of our Mediterranean landscape,” explains the designing company, Foster + Partners, which is among the world’s most renowned and innovative architectural firms.

In Greece, Intrakat has other ongoing public infrastructure projects like the construction of Thessaloniki main metro line (€1,35 billion), the expansion of Thessaloniki new metro line –Kalamaria (€424 million), Patra –Pyrgos Motorway, section Kareika–Gastouni (€300 million), Athens New Railway tunnel (€151million), Northern Crete Motorway, section Neapolis –Ag.Nikolaos (€186 million) or Fraport Greece Cluster Airport EASA projects (€91 million).

Intrakat is constructing the expansion of Evros’ Border Fence (99 million euros). The fence is made of galvanized steel. It’s 5 meters-high and includes anti-ballistic observatories with armored cabins and observation towers. The fence is also equipped with state-of-the-art digital technologies that provide enhanced security across the borders.

Intrakat and Aktor are also active in waste and waste water management construction and operations. Aktor manages Athens’ biological treatment plant located on the island of Psyttalia, while it has similar activities in Thessaloniki.

Intrakat is also involved in energy and real estate projects in Greece and abroad. On the international markets, namely in Qatar’s airport and subway, in Cyprus or Colombia.
