Romanian Post value in the privatization process was understood disappointingly

The way in which those who submitted non-binding offers for the privatization of the Romanian Post understood the company’s value was disappointing, Minister for Information Society Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday in a press conference, agerpres.ro informs.

“(…) The privatization process was completed, we respected what we have committed to the European Commission. (…) El Dorado period in Romania after ‘90s ended. Therefore, finally, maybe the fact that we will expect to see Post’s economic parameters, it changes the strategy. As you know, the Romanian Post began to be on profit with no loss as it was in 2010-2011. That changes the data, making the company more attractive,” Grindeanu stated.

Last month, ’bpost’, the Belgian postal services operator, did not submit a binding offer for the acquisition of 51 percent of the state-owned shares in the National Company ‘The Romanian Post’ (CNPR) – Posta Romana until the deadline of September 15.

In this context, the privatization process of the company will be reconsidered.

“Romanian Post privatization has not failed. The fact that the current formula of privatization did not have an outcome does not mean that the postal operator cannot search a new type of capitalization, more adequate to the current economic situation of the company,” Alexandru Petrescu, GM of CNPR said that moment. According to him, the sale of shares by public subscription is the best capitalization option for the Romanian Post.
