The Confederation of Authorized Operators and Carriers in Romania (COTAR) asks the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) to check the way Uber application is cashing in money from the customers after the ride-sharing company had launched a pilot project with users being able to pay the ride in cash, says the transporters’ association in a press release issued on Wednesday.
“We want to know how these companies manage to work and cash in money without observing the Romanian laws and without having authorizations. We want to know if there is lobby to protect these companies and who are the persons involved in these lobby actions. We ask authorities to conduct checks during traffic, including at the companies that provide illegal transportation and cash in money without a legal basis, not only at the authorized transporters, as it has happened so far,” reads the COTAR press release.
The transporters threaten with protest if authorities don’t conduct checks on the taxi companies like Uber.
UBER Romania has launched a pilot project, “From CASH to CARD”, which enables the people who haven’t chosen an Uber ride so far for they have no cards or are reticent to online payment, to use the service by paying cash.
To encourage customers who use cash to pay by card, UBER has clinched a partnership with BCR for VISA cards, through which users who pay cash receive five rides free of charge if they load a BCR Visa card in the application, including a prepaid card.
