Romanians’ shopping habits: Women pay by card, men prefer cash

Women have a greater openness to using the card as payment, while men prefer cash, home appliances and bank loans being most often paid by card, according to an EY study quoted by Mediafax.

The study was structured on the purchase steps of five types of products and four types of services from which there were extracted relevant data for the method of payment and post-purchase experience.

Depending on the products’ category, women prefer card payment for electronics and home appliances (39 per cent), cars (30 per cent) and clothing. Depending on the type of services, women pay by card for bank loans (35 per cent), insurance policies (33 per cent) and healthcare (22 per cent).

As for men, for the analyzed products’ category, electronics and home appliances (30 per cent) are in the preferences’ top for card payment, clothing (29 per cent) and food (26 per cent) coming next. Depending on the type of services, men mostly pay by card for bank loans (33 per cent), insurance policies (25 per cent) and mobile/internet services (21 per cent).

Cash is used by women especially in paying for food (69 per cent), clothing (68 per cent) and electronics and home appliances (52 per cent). Depending on the type of services, women pay cash for medical services (73 per cent), mobile/internet services (57 per cent) and insurance policies (55 per cent).

Men pay cash for food (69 per cent), clothing (67 per cent) and electronics and home appliances (64 per cent). Depending on the type of services, men pay cash for medical services (79 per cent), mobile/internet services (75 per cent) and insurance policies (63 per cent).

In regards with the purchase of services, women prefer shopping in stores (79 per cent), 7 per cent online shopping and 14 per cent both, while men prefer shopping in stores (70 per cent), 8 per cent online shopping and 22 per cent both.

As for purchasing products, women prefer shopping in stores (68 per cent), 6 per cent online shopping and 22 per cent both. Men choose to shop in stores (63 per cent), 7 per cent online shopping and 30 per cent both.
