Romanians shy in negotiating their wage at the interview, survey says

Less than half of the job seekers in Romania who are going to interviews for a job is negotiating their salaries, although the money offered by the hiring companies can be increased up to 25%, according to a BestJobs survey, conducted on 210 companies and 1,100 Internet users during June 3-21, 2019.

The poll also says that even less candidates are negotiating their extra employee benefits.

Almost a quarter of employers said that below 10 per cent of the job seekers coming to interview is negotiating the offered wage, while almost 40 per cent say that 10 pc to 50 pc of candidates do this. Only one in ten recruiters said the candidates who negotiate their salaries is ranging for 75% to 100%.

Despite this, over six in ten employers say the salary they can grant to a candidate is negotiable. Most of them (56.5%), recruiters stated that the sum offered as wage can be negotiated up to 25%.

Around three in ten recruiters said there is no margin of negotiation in terms of salaries.

Men usually negotiate more than women

As a general rule, most of the candidates who want to negotiate their pays are men (46%), while under a third are women.

When it comes to extra employee benefits, over half of recruiters (53%) say that under 10 per cent of the candidates coming to interviews negotiate these rights, as well.

Among the most wanted extra employee benefits negotiated by candidates during job interviews are: the flexible working hours (47%), performance bonus (44%), trainings and other courses paid by the company for the employee’s professional development (30%).

Other benefits that are usually negotiated are the total or partial coverage of the transport fees (25.3%), company car (24%), the possibility of working from home (19%) and the private health insurance for their family (18.5%).
