Romexpo to invest EUR 10 M in the next two years in expanding exhibition area

Romexpo exhibition centre in Bucharest will resume the upgrading works. For this, EUR 10 million will be invested over the next two years in expanding the exposure surface with 36,000 square meters, by building two new pavilions, Mediafax informs.

The expansion and modernization works of Romexpo have started in 2008, amid Romania’s strong economic growth and a positive trend of trade fair market. The value of the project was estimated at EUR 36 million at that time.

After 2008, the global economic crisis led to the postponement of the project as exhibition market in Romania suffered a sharp contraction of around 30-35 percent, leveling off towards end-2012.

According to C?t?lin Trifu, general manager of Romexpo, the improving market conditions at European and regional level and the recent economic performance of the national economy create the conditions for adopting a new development strategy.

Through this strategy, Romexpo’s indoor exhibition area will double, becoming the third largest exhibition centre in the region, after those in Zagreb – Croatia or Thessaloniki – Greece.

The new pavilions will work as exhibition complex, as well as a centre of events and congress and can host meetings and conferences.

During last year, Romexpo exhibition centre hosted 66 exhibitions, of which 41 were organized by Romexpo SA, and 25 were organized in partnership with other organizers of fairs and exhibitions on a total rented exhibition surface of 315,000 square meters, where 6,188 companies from 39 countries, including Romania have exhibited for 523.000 visitors.

For 2014, Romexpo’s activity can be summed up in: 41 trade fairs and exhibitions organized, both for specialists and general audience, 25 trade fairs and exhibitions hosted, 9 concerts and 95 congresses, conferences, classes, receptions, business meetings.
