Serbia, interested in importing Romania’s Black Sea gas

Serbia has held talks with Romania about importing natural gas from the Black Sea region, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday.

“We have just finished our talks with Romanian PM Victor Ponta about getting the gas from the Romanian part of Black Sea,” Vucic told the Reuters Global Market Forum in Davos.

“At the same time we are open to discuss all the possibilities to get the Russian gas through pipelines from Turkey, Greece, Macedonia to Serbia,” he said.

According to the quoted source, Serbia imports around 90 percent of its gas needs from Russia via Ukraine but is looking for alternative supply routes following Russia’s decision to abandon the South Stream gas project.

Increasing gas fields have been recently discovered on the Romanian coast of the Black Sea, while the Romanian authorities have been frequently talking lately about the need for Romania’s energetic independence.
