Passengers travelling by metro in Bucharest will be able to pay their rides by any contactless cards from now on, with their smartphones or smart watches. The services is available in nine tube stations for the time being.
Metrorex and BCR have implemented a new card payment solution within a pilot project in the Bucharest Metro. “The system, developed by BCR, is made at every access gate, using cutting edge integration technologies, which makes quicker the payment accept and unlocking the gates”, reads a press release.
The card payment is available just in nine metro stations for now: Pipera, Aurel Vlaicu, Piața Victoriei 1 si 2, Piața Universității, Piața Unirii 1 si 2, Tineretului and Grozăvești.
The pilot programme is running for the next 2-3 months and will be subsequently expanded to all metro stations.
The cost of a metro ride is RON 2.5 (RON 5 for two rides) and does involve no extra fee.
