Surprising position changes among the richest Romanians

For the second year running, Ion Tiriac is the richest Romanian according to the XIV edition of Top 300 Capital.

Romanian businessman and former professional tennis and ice hockey player has a fortune estimated at EUR 1.5 billion, up from last year’s edition -EUR 1.2 – 1.3 billion.

Businessman Ioan Niculae, who now is serving a two years and six months jail sentence for illegally sponsoring the electoral presidential campaign of Mircea Geoana in 2009, lost the second place in favor of brothers Adrian and Dragos Paval (Dedeman), two entrepreneurs who have won in a market where foreign investors have reported losses. They have accumulated an estimated fortune of EUR 850-900 millions.

With a fortune of EUR 1-1.1 billion in the previous edition, the founder of InterAgro Group, has now EUR 750-800 millions.

On the fourth place is Teszari Zoltan, the owner of RCS & RDS with a fortune of EUR 480-500 million. In 2014, the businessman’s fortune amounted to EUR 530-560 million.

A significant advance was recorded by Iulian Dascalu, the biggest Romanian mall owner, who climbed from 10th place on the 5th in the rankings, namely from EUR 400-420 million to EUR 430-450 million.

This year, the total amount of wealth reached EUR 20.8 billion, 7.5 percent less than the previous edition of the ranking.

When calculating the fortunes Capital magazine took into account both the value of holdings in companies, and the value of movable and immovable properties.
