The first wabi-sabi tourist unit in Romania

Euforia Retreat & Spa is the first wabi-sabi hotel in Romania, located on the Romanian Black Sea shore, and open throughout the year. Opened last summer, following an investment of 2.2 million euros, the accommodation unit includes extensive spa services, with different types of massage and therapies, wet and dry sauna, jacuzzi, indoor pool, and a multi-purpose room for physiotherapy, yoga and pilates, all in a quiet luxury atmosphere.

The project is an investment with Romanian capital, the Euforia boutique hotel is located on the beach between the two seaside resorts, Eforie Sud and Eforie Nord, at the intersection of the Black Sea and Lake Techirghiol. It has 20 rooms with a unique design made in the wabi-sabi aesthetic, a concept that defines the art of finding beauty in imperfection, authenticity and in the contemplation of nature.

The design used natural materials such as wood, stone, linen textiles, hemp, cotton, wicker, vintage objects – a wooden wall recovered from a barn in Transylvania -, in a color scheme integrated into the landscape of the Romanian coast. The sculptures located both inside and outside are made by local artist George Culea in Techirghiol stone.

The development of Euforia Retreat & Spa took two years and involved the restoration and extension of an interwar building on the seafront. Plaja Villa, now integrated into the hotel, was built in 1930, rebuilt in 1990 and 2023, and belonged to the family of Cecil Popa, one of the best hematologists that Romania had.
