Three oil vessels built by Daewoo Mangalia shipyard and bought by a Greek shipowner, were released into the water today. The ships will carry crude oil extracted from the North Sea, which will reach South America in the end.
The vessels will cross the Atlantic and the oil which is carrying it will be processed in refineries in Brazil. The construction of oil tankers lasted a year and Mangalia shipyard has become competitive as the price of steel dropped.
Greek shipowner has ordered another six ships of this type, which means that Daewoo Mangalia will have orders in the coming years too.
The majority of the site is owned by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. The remaining 49 percent belongs to the Romanian state. Since the privatization that took place in 1997, here they have built over 140 commercial vessels, particularly ore and oil, but another 300,000 ships have been repaired.
In 2015, the turnover of Daewoo Mangalia was RON 2 billion, but the company reported losses of RON 500 million .
