The National Company of Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR) signed the contract for the construction of detour road of the city of Bacau, amounting to RON 394 million (EUR 89.54 million), without VAT, assigned to Turkish constructor Eko Insaat Ve Tic.
According to a press release, the contract was awarded following the completion of the public acquisition procedure. Project funding is done with European funds (85 percent) and money from state budget (15 percent).
The contract is for 48 months of which 24 months are for works execution and the other 24 months represents the warranty period. The length of the section is 30.7 kilometers.
The contract was signed in the presence of Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, Transportation Minister Ioan Rus and Halim Balkay, General Director of the Turkish company. This comes 12 years after the initiation of the project and overcoming all contest terms of the auction. Signing this contract prefaced the meeting between PM Ponta and Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on an official visit to Romania of the latter, held on Wednesday on Victoriei Palace.
Eko Insaat Ve Tic as well as EKO Construction, EKO Group’s flagship company, commenced its operations in the Turkish construction sector in 1965. EKO Construction operates both in Turkey and abroad and its operations are diverse including civilian airports and military air bases, terminal buildings, military defense facilities for NATO, expressways, roads, railways, luxury housing complexes, business centers, shopping centers, industrial buildings, and tourist facilities.
According to website information, EKO Construction remains the only Turkish general contracting firm to have completed two turn-key airport projects from landscape planning to installation of the final electronic system (including civil works, mechanical, electrical, electronic installations, and commissioning processes).
