Uber has today announced the launch of a new sustainable travel option, with the launch of its latest mobility product UberX Share. In addition to the capital of Romania, UberX Share is now available in Warsaw and Stockholm too.
UberX Share will allow riders to:
- Save on every trip: As Uber’s most affordable option, riders will receive everything they love about UberX at a more affordable price, even when not matched with another passenger. When matched, the savings can get up to 30%!
- Make a sustainable choice: UberX Share provides a greener way to get from A to B by moving more people in fewer cars.
- Decongesting Bucharest: The capital is the eighth most congested city in the world according to the Traffic Index. A ride shared by multiple passengers helps reduce emissions and city congestion.
“In Bucharest, there are over 1.5 million cars, often with only one person on board. In this context, we are pleased to launch a product we have been thinking about for a long time. UberX Share is the most affordable Uber product, and the only one that allows multiple users to reach their destination by sharing the same ride,” says Ana-Maria Borlovan, Head of Operations, Central & Eastern Europe. She adds, “The new Uber product will provide users in Bucharest with affordable and more sustainable rides, helping to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital.”
This follows the launch of Uber Green in Bucharest, giving riders an opportunity to request a ride in an EV. Uber Green is the most widely available on-demand mobility solution in the world to request no- or low-emission rides.
How to use UberX Share?
To take advantage of the combined ride option, launch the Uber app, enter the address of the destination, and then scroll down the list of available options to the bottom, where you’ll find the “UberX Share” feature. Even if riding alone, the rider will get a lower fare. If a co-rider is added to the route, the price decrease compared to an Uber X can be up to 30%. To ensure maximum safety for all passengers, the UberX Share product can only be ordered when you are the only passenger ordering a ride.
Drivers will earn at least the same with UberX Share as they would with UberX but with more riders on a trip, a shared trip is likely to be longer and that means a higher fare.
