Warsaw Stock Exchange, a symbol of Free Poland economy

Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) is a symbol of one of the biggest achievements in the economy of the Free Poland: the capital market. WSE is the most advanced financial instruments exchange of Central and Eastern Europe region and one of the fastest-growing exchanges in Europe.

Its two equities markets list close to 900 issuers and the exchange members include more than 50 local and international institutions.

WSE offers a wide range of products and services within its trading markets of equity, derivative, debt and structured products, electricity, natural gas, property rights, as well as clearing of transactions, operation of the Register of Certificates of Origin of electricity and sale of market data. WSE finished 2013 as a leader in the CEE Region in terms of capitalisation of listed companies, the value of turnover in shares and the volume of turnover in derivatives. The average number of transactions per session was 55.6 thousand in January-October 2014, an increase of 9.2 percent year on year. The value of session trading in equities on the Main Market was PLN 18.4 billion last month.

The development of WSE would not have been possible had it not been for the free market economy and the enthusiasm of Poles ready to actively participate in the economic transition. The Exchange has become an important contributor to raising capital for Polish companies and diversifying the savings of the population. It has also become an effective tool for the international promotion of the Polish market. This has been facilitated by good regulation, effective supervision, state-of-the-art infrastructure typical of mature markets which ensures safety of trading and transactions, and a broad offer of products addressed to a diversified base of local and international investors.
