Wielpütz Automotive invests EUR 10 M in a plant in Craiova

The representatives of Germany-based Wielpütz Automotive signed on Wednesday the lease of 3 hectares of land in the High-Tech Industry Park Craiova, the economic platform of the County Council, for the construction of a car subassemblies plant, as capital.ro informs.

The investment value amounts to EUR 10 million and the production is expected to start on September 1 this year.

”We have been searching for a new production site in Romania for some time and we had the first discussions in Mures County and two months ago we were for the first time in Dolj where we searched for six locations. We felt like home after the first discussion here in Craiova. And four weeks ago we decided to apply for High-Tech Park. The company has a tradition of more than 100 years, the range of products starts from simple systems like bending metal threads, to high-tech fueling or cooling systems for combustion engines. Our main customers are all the world-renowned companies – Daimler, Volkswagen, BMW, General Motors, Ford. We have to say openly that we can no longer expand in Germany and that’s why we have decided to go abroad for a new investment,” Volker Schlegel, Manager Wielpütz Automotive, stated.

He said that the company has the opportunity to grow in Craiova, to expand with the products. Wielpütz Automotive will build a new hall on the rented land and will create 500 jobs, mostly for women, to work as fitters.

In 2019, Germany-based Wielpütz Automotive will start manufacturing the high-tech products, Schlegel also said.
