Wizz Air expands in Timisoara

Wizz Air has announced on Thursday a further expansion to its Timisoara network, allocating an additional Airbus A320 aircraft and adding 4 new routes from its Timisoara base, as well as increasing the frequencies of some of the most popular existing routes, a press release by the company informs.

The new Airbus A320 will be joining Wizz Air’s Timisoara fleet as of September 2019, representing a further investment of over USD 100 million by WIZZ in Romania, and will create 35 additional direct local jobs with the airline. With the arrival of the new aircraft in Timisoara, Wizz Air’s Romanian fleet will grow to a total of 27 aircraft, with 3 of them based in Timisoara. The fleet growth will increase Wizz Air’s capacity in Romania further by 10.5% year on year, representing a total of 9.5 million seats on sale in 2019.

Starting from September, the newest Wizz Air services will connect Timisoara with Billund in Denmark (Tuesday, Saturday, as of September 3), which is the home of the famous Lego-company; two German cities – the historic, gothic-styled peak-shaped Nuremberg (Wednesday and Sunday, as of September 1) and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (Monday, Friday, as of September 2), a relaxing spa town next to the French Border with one of the most attractive castle landmarks in the country; as well as with the gem of the British Victorian era, Doncaster/Sheffield in the United Kingdom ((Tuesday, Saturday, as of September 3).

“We are thrilled to be announcing the addition of a third aircraft to our Timisoara base today. This investment means more local jobs in Romania at Wizz Air, as well as more affordable travel options for our Romanian customers. Moreover, it means more exciting routes in Europe, providing affordable access to more and more destinations from our Timisoara customers. We hope that the four new services from Timisoara to such interesting destinations as Billund in Denmark, Baden-Baden and Nuremberg in Germany and Sheffield in the UK will be welcomed by our passengers. We are sure that our services will also bring more international travellers as well as strengthen business links between Romania and the rest of Europe. Our friendly Romanian crew looks forward to welcoming you on board a WIZZ flight!”, Tamara Vallois, Head of Communications at Wizz Air, said in a press conference in Timisoara.

In 2018, WIZZ carried more than 8.3 million passengers on its low fare routes to and from Romania, which represents a 14% growth year on year. Throughout the country, Wizz Air’s operations this year will support more than 6,000 jobs in associated industries. WIZZ now offers 146 routes to 20 countries from 10 airports in Romania. Tickets for the new routes are already on sale and can be booked from only RON 99 (one-way, including taxes and non-optional charges), based on Airbus list price, on wizzair.com.
