The British are outraged. Should we be pleased with the gypsies?

Ion Lazar is a Roma ethnic with Romanian citizenship. He built a house in Romania with the social benefits cashed in the UK. In a feature published in December by the Daily Mail he confessed he was hoping to get 60,000 pounds more. His case was revealed by Channel 5. “I believe I could get some 60,000 pounds in the next two or three years or even more,” the man said. He built a house on Argetoaia commune, Dolj County.

Such cases surface after January 1, 2014 once free movement and labour in the EU has become a reality for Eastern Europeans. Fears about a flux of immigrants from Romania and Bulgaria did not become reality, however there are more and more eastern Europeans trying to get to the UK especially.

Among them, the Roma ethnics. For years the westerners taught us to take care of the gypsies, told us not to discriminate them. Now, that the gypsies leave for France, Finland, Germany, the UK, Belgium and so on, the westerners can find out by themselves how ‘easy’ is to deal with the problem.

One advice: don’t be so angry. You may lose some money, but in this case it is clear Ion Lazar will return back home someday. You’ll get rid of him. It’s still us who should deal with his problems.

It’s not discrimination, it’s a reality. Many gypsies don’t have a job, leave from one day to another, try to take advantage of the state’s benefits and some become criminals. Or many of them. Or…

Let’s review his case. Anyway, it’s not at all a matter of pride for us Romanians to see the gypsies called Romanians every time. This approach is backed by the confusion made between ‘Roma ethnics’ term and ‘Romanians’. Some westerners have become thinking Romanian is synonym to Roma. For us it’s not fair.

“Romanian migrant boasts handouts from the UK have helped him construct home for wife and children in his homeland. A Roma gypsy says he is using the £60,000 he has received in benefits to create a lavish house in his homeland,” Daily Mail reported.

“Ion Lazar boasts that British handouts are funding the refurbishment of the property in the village of Argetoaia in southern Romania.

He said: ‘I know the benefit I can make very easily in England. It’s coming in benefits. It’s like free money, thank you England.’

Mr Lazar, 36, a part-time self-employed scrap metal collector in London, pays no tax as he earns so little and claims £1,700 a month in welfare.

Ukip MEP Steven Woolfe is furious about the revelation. He told the Daily Express: ‘This is further proof of the national scandal of the abuse of our benefits system caused by our open-door migration policy with the EU.

‘We should ban all benefits to immigrants until they have contributed through taxation for at least five years.’

Mr Lazar came to the Britain with five other immigrants when the work restrictions on Romanians were lifted in January.

In April he appeared in another Channel 5 documentary which followed the lives of Roma gipsies in Britain. In it he admits he is just planning to stash his benefits to take home to his family in Romania. He added: ‘I know it’s very, very easy to take benefits in England… She’s give me home free, she’s give me money free, she’s give me everything.’

David Cameron announced that he would ban migrants from claiming benefits for four years after moving to Britain.

But he failed to include a controversial ’emergency break’ on migration if the benefit cuts did not lead to a fall in the number of EU workers moving to the UK.”
