NATO summit in Warsaw: Romanian brigade to turn into multinational one, Stoltenberg says

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced in Friday that a Romanian brigade would be turned into a multinational one to strengthen NATO’s presence in southeastern Europe.

In a speech delivered before the NATO summit in Warsaw, Jens Stoltenberg presented the challenges ahead the North Atlantic Alliance.

President Klaus Iohannis said that the NATO Secretary General’s statement on the multinational brigade in Romania confirms the fact that Romania’s goals and initiatives at the Warsaw summit are taking shape and will be found in the meeting’s final documents.

The Romanian president pointed out that NATO summit would promote important projects for Romania’s security.

Today, NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, announced that the Alliance would turn a Romanian brigade into an international one to strengthen NATO’s presence in southeastern Europe and for the defence against attacks from outside the Alliance. The statement therefore confirms that initiatives and goals proposed by Romania to this summit are taking shape and will be found in the final documents of the meeting,” President Iohannis posted on Facebook on Friday.

US to send 1,000 troops to the Kogalniceanu airbase

The United States of America will send 1,000 troops and heavy ordnance to the Kogalniceanu military airbase, Constanta county, TVR informs. The regiment is part of the third mechanized brigade that the Pentagon is expected to deploy in Europe, under the current security context.

The above-mentioned source say that the American military will stay in Kogalniceanu on long term, depending on the level of threat, but the regiment will rotate every nine months.

The troops will also attend training sessions on the entire Eastern flank, to test and response and reaction capacity of the allies. US has two such brigades in Europe.
