ALDE Chairman Calin Popescu Tariceanu said he would win the presidential elections if he runs, but nothing has been decided yet. The statement was made during a talk-show at Antena 3 TV private broadcaster.
“Only one result: I will win if I run, but no decision has been made on the candidacy. Together with the ruling coalition partners we’ve decided to assess the situation after the elections for European Parliament. We’ve decided that the best positioned to defeat Klaus Iohannis should run,” Tariceanu said.
He added this is a tough decision, but he is prepared.
“It is a tough decision, I am ready for it, we’ll decide later. It won’t last long, about two months,” the ALDE Chairman said.
Tariceanu has stated repeatedly he is seriously considering running for the presidential elections scheduled late this year.
PSD leader Liviu Dragnea said on March 10 there’s been no official discussion in the coalition on a common candidate for the presidential elections. Dragnea said he has agreed with Tariceanu to reveal a common candidate for the presidential elections after the elections for European Parliament.
