Alina Gorghiu frames some Liberal names for potential ministers. USR wants minimum number of technocrats

The Liberal chairwoman Alina Gorghiu on Tuesday revealed several potential Liberal names that could become ministers if winning elections. Gorghiu said that Adriana Saftoiu could take over the Education portfolio, Florin Citu could be Economy or Finances minister. On the other hand, the Save Romania Union (USR) says that there should not be more than a fifth from the current technocrat ministers.

I am talking about PNL members who are very well trained. Adriana Saftoiu could be minister of Education, Florin Citu at the Economy or Finances Ministry. There are people who could take over a portfolio anytime, I will not hesitate to propose them,” Gorghiu told B1TV on Tuesday night.

She argued that a Social Democrat ruling would bring back Ecaterina Andronescu as Education Minister.

My fear is that PSD will bring the same Ecaterina Andronescu if coming to rule, she is a disaster for the education system in Romania (…): my fear is that they will come with all sort of people and will go in for the same politics as they have done in the past 26 years. We propose very well trained people who have no hesitation in saying their point of view if it’s not popular,” Gorghiu said.

Asked if USR accepted a government consisting in the current technocrat ministers or a political government, the USR candidate for a deputy seat, Cosette Chichirau said she doesn’t know if keeping some technocrat ministers, as PM Ciolos wishes, is “a magical solution”, stating that there should be a minimum number of technocrats in the future Executive, no more than a fifth.

PM Dacian Ciolos said he had preliminary informal talks with some of the technocrat ministers of his Cabinet that they should keep their portfolios in the future gov’t. Ciolos added this is “his clear, firm” desire that he also shared with PNL and USR, the parties that endorses him for a new term of prime minister.

Liberal sources told local news agencies that Labour minister Dragos Pislaru is one of the ministers that Ciolos would like to keep in a potential future government.
