AUR MP Dan Tănasă announced on Tuesday in Parliament that the party led by George Simion will not participate in parliamentary party consultations with President-elect Nicușor Dan, citing that he “refuses dialogue with all parties.”
“We refuse to endorse a political farce. Romanians deserve respect. Nicușor Dan refuses dialogue with all parties. He chooses to speak only with the parties that supported him in the electoral campaign as an independent candidate, or that can be useful to him for his future government. This attitude is deeply anti-democratic and represents a mockery of the millions of Romanians who voted differently. Romania urgently needs a government, and the so-called president must deliver to Romanians what he promised – a government without a VAT increase, without increased taxes that will produce a profound change in Romania. AUR will not endorse this charade. We will not participate in formal consultations and we will not legitimize a procedure that ignores the reality of the vote and the popular will. (…) AUR refuses to participate in a simulacrum of consultations and parliamentary procedures for the formation of a new government. We will not legitimize a president of abuse – another puppet of foreign interests. Romania needs a democratic revival, transparency, a leadership in the service of the people, not of interest networks or embassies,” Dan Tănasă said in Parliament.
He held a press statement at 2:30 p.m., without accepting questions from journalists. George Simion was not present.
Previously, Simion wrote on Facebook that “important announcements” were coming.
“Important announcements TODAY! The announcements you, free Romanians, have been waiting for! Today at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. All the way!”, the message on Facebook reads.
