Basescu: Erdogan should preach Islam in Turkey, not in a Christian country

Former president Traian Basescu criticized again the authorities’ intention to build a mosque in Bucharest, transmitting Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to preach Islam in Turkey, not in a Christian country.

“Two foolish persons ahead of the Romanian state want that the biggest European mosque to be built in Bucharest and that a university with 6,000 students selected all over the Arab world to function by the mosque,” Basescu wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

This time Basescu went further launching a tough attack against the leader of the Muslim community in Romania and against Turkish president Erdogan, as Turkey is going to fund this huge project. “Mufti, I have a suggestion for you, too: you’d better keep your mouth shut, as it is not about minorities here. Do you happen to know about the Islamic State terrorists’ dream to expand in the Balkans and in Central Europe? Erdogan had better preach the Islamism in Turkey, not in a Christian-Orthodox country.”

The former Romanian president reiterated that such initiative could pose national security risks, accusing the current Romanian authorities of not assessing the effects of such undertaking.

“You probably don’t manage to imagine a subway station in Bucharest where a faithful young man is detonating a bomb in the name of Allah during the rush hour. Or maybe intelligence doesn’t help you imagine Romanian young losers converted to Islam and sent in training camps in Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan who will be sent back to Europe to bring us the Islamic State benefits,” Basescu also says.
