Călin Georgescu Left Romania a Day Before His Protest at CCR

Presidential candidate Călin Georgescu announced that he will not be present at the rally to which he had called his supporters to support his initiative against the CCR’s decision to cancel the organization of the second round of the presidential elections, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, January 10.

In a message posted on social media, Călin Georgescu states that, together with a legal team, he will personally travel to file appeals against the CCR decision at the “highest European institutions” and that he will not be present at the rally that will take place in front of the Constitutional Court on Friday.

“My dears, I understand that tomorrow you will join, with faith, the Great Legal Union of Romanians. Voting is our right that has been violated! Tomorrow, a Great Legal Union of lawyers will also become a Great Romanian Hora, because no one falls from the great hora of our conscience, we are all closely linked by the same ideal – freedom! Today, I will take our hora to the heart of Europe, to the highest courts. Each of us does his part in this historic mission through which we defend our democracy. Along with another legal team from the diaspora, our other Romania, starting today I will personally go to submit legal requests to the highest European institutions”. Me there, you here”, Georgescu also says in the video clip he posted on his Facebook page.

Hotnews released footage featuring Călin Georgescu inside the Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest, informing that the politician boarded the Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt, accompanied by his bodyguard. The first of the “great European institutions”, to which Călin Georgescu refers in his message, could be the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), located in Strasbourg, approximately 200 kilometers from Frankfurt.

Călin Georgescu had called on his supporters on Friday, January 10, in front of the Constitutional Court, to support the initiative of a group of lawyers to review the CCR decision in the event of the annulment of the elections.

“On January 10, at 10 am, a group of lawyers as brave as the people who demonstrate daily in the streets, both in the country and abroad, will be present at the Constitutional Court of Romania to ask this institution to urgently review its decision that threw Romania into chaos. On January 10, at 10 am, the Great Legal Union of our people will take place. Our signatures, the more there are, will truly write history, as we promised, and will restore the second round as is legal. You have the opportunity to make your children and grandchildren proud that you took a dignified and peaceful stand and that you gave up watching on TV how a gang of political thugs trample on your constitutional rights (…) Be there to sign for this courageous initiative of the lawyers. Join this legal effort in person. Sign and ask to vote”, Călin Georgescu mobilized his supporters, in a message posted on his Facebook page.
