The mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, has been remanded for 72 hours on the night of Thursday to Friday, being charged with corruption, Unimedia and Jurnal de Chisinau report.
Chirtoaca is changed with influence peddling and abuse of office in a file made by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.
Prosecutors say, according to Unimedia, that the mayor has ordered the deputy mayor, as chairman of the company selection committee, to sign the contract for the building of parking lots by a certain company, without the approval of the city council.
Dorin Chirtoaca was heard by prosecutors Thursday evening at the CNA offices.
Previously Chirtoaca spent three hours in his city hall office, together with the CNA prosecutors, during the searched conducted at the Chisinau city hall.
The anticorruption prosecutors have conducted searches at the Chisinau city hall, including in the office of the mayor. Three civil servants have been remanded.
