Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu gave, on Friday, a new ultimatum to the doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu, candidate of the PSD-PNL Coalition in the Capital, to hold a conference in which to explain all the accusations regarding his incompatibilities.
Otherwise, says Ciolacu, “we will not be able to move forward”.
Asked if he will ask the doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu to withdraw from the race for the Capital City Hall, Ciolacu, who is also PSD chairman, said: “I am not asking anyone to withdraw or not to withdraw.Having an experience, I say, greater than Mr. Cîrstoiu, I made a recommendation to him, both directly and through you, as many times as you asked me. Mr. Cîrstoiu must go out and hold a press conference, as we agreed with his lordship and with the president Nicolae Ciucă, and explain all the issues that appeared in the public space”.
“I am not asking anyone to take a step back. I have more political experience than Mr. Cîrstoiu, I made a recommendation to him directly and through you. Mr. Cîrstoiu must go out, hold a press conference and explain all the issues that appeared in the public space. We will not be able to move forward until Mr. Cîrstoiu explains, he cannot move forward as a Coalition candidate. I agreed this with Mr. Ciucă and Mr. Cîrstoiu.I repeat, let Cîrstoiu come out and explain, otherwise we will not move forward”, stated Ciolacu.
“We will not be able to move forward until this happens, until Dr. Cîrstoiu explains all the issues that have appeared in the public space, he cannot move forward as a candidate of the coalition. I agreed on this together with Nicolae Ciucă and the doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu.(..) I repeat, Mr. Cîrstoiu must go out into the public space and explain all aspects, this way we will not be able to move forward“, the PSD chairman stressed.
As for the mayor of District 3 of Bucharest, Robert Negoiță’s willingness to run for the Capital City Hall instead Cirstoiu, Marcel Ciolacu said he had decided together with PNL chair Nicolae Ciuca that Negoiță is “a very good candidate for District 3”.
“I’m glad that Robert Negoiță saw a possible deadlock and offered to be a candidate. After the telephone conversation with Nicolae Ciucă, we consider that Robert Negoiță is a very good candidate for District 3, where we agreed upon,” said Ciolacu.
Popescu Piedone officially submitted his candidacy: “If PSD wants a victory in the fall, it would be wise to support me”
Meanwhile, Cristian Popescu Piedone has officially submitted his candidacy for the position of general mayor of the Capital on behalf of PUSL, inviting PSD to support him, if the social democrats want to win the presidential elections in the fall.
“As of today, the rumors that I will retire have been shut down. Whoever wants to line up behind me can do so. We will submit the list of councilors in the following days, if someone lines up then we can speak politically for the majority in the General Council”, said Cristian Popescu Piedone, after submitting the 52,000 signatures of support.
He explained that, given that the PNL opposes his candidacy, he is waiting for PSD to announce its support, implying that the votes he and PUSL will get could be decisive in the presidential elections at the end of this year.
