The Coalition leaders have decided who will be their candidate for the presidential elections. Crin Antonescu is still supported by PSD, PNL and UDMR. The date of the elections was also discussed. Thus, the first round will be organized on May 4, and the second round – on May 18.
In the first meeting of the Coalition this year, the political parties agreed that the first round of the presidential elections would take place on May 4, and the second round on May 18, the PNL announced in an official statement after the meeting at the Victoria Palace.
“The decision takes into account the need for the first round of the elections to take place at the same time as the partial elections in certain counties (mayoral elections in 13 communes, for the Buşteni City Hall, the Zalău City Hall and the Bihor County Council) and the need for the election dates not to overlap with the Easter and Palm Sunday holidays,” according to the statement.
Thus, next week the Government will adopt the Emergency Ordinance and the Government Decision necessary to comply with the Coalition’s decisions.
According to the PNL, “The Coalition has reconfirmed that Mr. Crin Antonescu remains its candidate for the presidential elections.” “At the same time, it was decided that, by January 27, the state budget will be presented at the Coalition meeting, so that in the first week of February it will be adopted by the Romanian Parliament.”
The Coalition also decided that, together with the first round of voting, partial elections will be organized in 13 communes, Zalău City Hall, Buşteni City Hall and Bihor County Council.
