Criminal Codes amendments postponed for autumn

Chamber’s Legal Committee on Tuesday decided to postpone debating the amendments for the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code by 4 weeks. Considering the parliamentary session ends on June 30, the debate is adjourned for autumn.

The Legal Committee’ vice-chairman Social Democrat Ciprian Nica proposed the draft’s delay for four weeks, while the committee passed the proposal by 10 votes to 7.

PNL MP Gabriel Andronache said the drafts should better be rejected altogether and not delayed, but his proposal was vetoed.

Last week, UNPR leader Gabriel Oprea threatened his party would withdraw from the ruling coalition if amendments to the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code were adopted on the sly. On Tuesday, UNPR hailed the postponement decision.
