Crown Princess Margareta receives the Queen title after King Michael’s demise

Crown Princess Margareta will receive the title of Queen after his father’s death. However, the Royal House of Romania informed in a press release on Wednesday that the princess will be the one to decide if she is going to use or not this title.

The Royal House of Romania has released the complete statute that stipulates that after the demise of the Romanian Royal House’s head, the Heir Apparent or the Heir Presumptive will receive the title and the position of King or Queen, depending on who is alive and the first in the line of succession at that moment.

According to the Royal House’s document, the head of the Romanian Royal House is the Sovereign de facto or de jure, at any moment. “Immediately after the demise of the Royal House’s head, without any subsequent proclamation, the Heir Apparent or the Heir Presumptive will receive the title and the position of King or Queen, depending on who is alive and the first one in the line of succession at that time, regardless of the Family’s position as ruling or non-ruling Dynasty and even if, will choose later to use such title or not,” reads the document.

At the same time, the consort of a woman who is head of the Royal House will have no rank, title or privilege, but he will be granted, ad personam, by the decision of the head of the Romanian Royal House, the norms say.

The consort of a potential female head of the Romanian Royal House will be granted the title of “His Royal Highness Prince Consort of Romania”, a title and rank which will precede any other Romanian or foreign title. He will have this title during marriage and only during his wife’s lifetime and only as long as she will remain the head of the Romanian Royal House.

The King’s testament

Less is known of the King’s testament or about the entire fortune of the Royal House. TVR reports that the King has signed a testament, but its content is not known. The King himself has never talked in public about money and wealth. His assests will be most probably divided among his five daughters.

In 2015, King Michael’s wealth was estimated to almost EUR 60 M, according to the Top 300 Capital.

In 2002, the King regained possession of the royal domain in Savarsin, Arad county (western Romania), while further land and building retrocessions in Sinaia and Bucharest followed in the next years.

Peleș Castle, known as the Pearl of the Romanian Crown, was regained in 2007, along with Pelișoe, but Peleș has remained open in the public circuit.
