The Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) on Tuesday has approved an action plan over medium and long term regarding Romania’s relationship with Republic of Moldova, President Klaus Iohannis has announced.
“As I said in September (…) and I reiterate now that this relationship between Republic of Moldova and Romania is a very important one, and is to improve, to become more efficient, more pragmatic and more predictable. (… ) Our strategic objective, as reflected in this plan we have approved today, is Republic of Moldova’s irreversible European integration, with clear orientation and pro-European connection with strong institutions, with a solid democracy, a process in which Romania can and should play the main role,” Iohannis said at at Cotroceni Palace after the CSAT meeting.
He said that this action plan is based on the comprehensive and realistic assessment of the status of relations with Republic of Moldova in the complicated international context, including the recent developments that have taken place in this country.
“In order to implement the action plan regarding the strategic approach of the relationship between Romania and Republic of Moldova, an interdepartmental working group under the coordination of the Presidential Administration will be set up, which will start working soon,” President Iohannis said.
